for one of its architectural works, the Eiffel Tower. In addition to the main
island, France also has small islands and territories called Metropolitan
France extending from the English Channel to the Mediterranean Sea. France is a
semi-presidential unitary republic with the ideology contained in the
Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizens. One of the historic sites as
well as the most famous tourist destination in France is the Eiffel Tower. The
Eiffel Tower was designed by an engineer named Gustave Eiffel in 1889 in the
city of Paris. Composed of 10,000 tons of material, and 7,300 tons of which is
iron. The tower construction project involved 300 workers until on 31 March
1999 the Eiffel Tower was inaugurated at a Universal Exhibition.
Today,
the Eiffel Tower has become one of the most visited tourist destinations in the
world. In 2000 two hundred million people from all over the world visited the
Eiffel Tower. Of course, this has become one of the country's foreign exchange
earnings in the tourism sector. Many people are interested in visiting Paris
just to see the Eiffel Tower, and at night the tower looks romantic and
beautiful because it is equipped with as many as 20,000 lamps. Before 1930, the
Eiffel Tower had become one of the tallest buildings in the world after finally
being defeated by the Chrysler Building in New York City. The structure of the
Tower is made pointing up so that it can avoid the gusts of wind, so that until
now the Tower can still stand firm.
At
first the Eiffel Tower only had permission to stand for 20 years. However,
because the place became one of the most visited destinations, it finally
functioned as a tourist spot. Apart from being a tourist destination, this
tower also functions as a telecommunications channel because there are radio
channels on it.
